The Geltsdale Cheval mirror, part of the Geltsdale Reflections mirror range is showing at the Art in Action Gallery for Art In Action 2015.

This sleek and simple mirror in figured English olive ash was inspired by 1960s designs, with modern simplicity showing off the true beauty of the stunning woods used.

Beating A stunning Technique

From Metal To Wood

Each stroke of the hammer must be just hard enough, but just soft enough.  Transferring this traditional metalworking technique to wood gives an new tactile feel and surprising look

Each of the thousand odd hammer strokes on this surface must be done by hand, one at a time and only once the wood has been polished.  If you make a mistake it can’t be repaired.

Each stroke of the hammer must be hard enough to leave an impression, but not so hard as to crack the polish;

but what a finish.

I am using this old metalwork technique in a surprising way with wood with fantastic effect
